Good Day People of the Drum!
The 8000 drums celebration at Lakeside Park in Nelson last Saturday was a big success with many people showing up for both the drum circle and the Labyrinth Equinox celebration. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated and a very big thank you to those who organized everything. It just gets better every year. The sun even came out to shine at one point.
Hope to see you at the circle tonight. Bring an important new moon intention you want to seed and we’ll drum it into being!
Ah – a New Moon. A new cycle. A fresh start. A new beginning. A seed planted. An idea initiated. New moon is a great time to start something new. It is the best time to plant seeds in your garden. Seedlings need a period of gestation before they break through the soil and reach for the sunlight. This is also true for our ideas and our desires. The dark side of the moon, with its mysterious unseen forces, offers a nurturing environment where our intentions can establish roots before their manifestations begin to sprout and become real. When it comes to setting goals or planning ahead for your future there is no better time to get started than during the new moon. Any intentions stated or written down during a new moon carry extra power.
For those who like performing New Moon ceremonies here is a simple but effective New Moon ritual: (This New Moon is in Aries)
New Moon Ritual
By SimoneButler, eHow Editor
Each month, the Sun and Moon join together to make a fresh start. At the New Moon, we plant symbolic seeds that will sprout two weeks later in the light of the Full Moon.
The following New Moon ritual will help you manifest that which you desire. Perform it in a small group for extra power and support.
Things You’ll Need:
A candle for the New Moon, crystals or other sacred objects such as goddess statues or fresh flowers, a sage stick and fan, a small jar of earth and jar or chalice of water, table cloth.
Step1
Determine the Element of the New Moon
Choose appropriate colors for candles, flowers and table cloths.
Fire Moon (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): Red, wine, purple, metallic gold.
Earth Moon (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): Yellow, brown, rust, green.
Air Moon (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): Silver, white, black, sky blue.
Water Moon (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): Wine, teal, all pearlized shades).
Step2
Create Your Arrangement
A round table is ideal for creating your sacred wheel of objects. Or, use a square table or the floor.
Place the water glass in the West, the candle in the South, the jar of earth in the North, and the smudge stick in the East.
Flowers, crystals and statues go in the center.
Step3
Call in the Directions
Begin in the East, and light the sage. To purify, brush the smoke up and down yourself and any participants.
Ask the East to clear your mind. Move to the South and light the candle. Ask the South to awaken a childlike spirit of play.
Move to the West and dip your fingers in the water. Ask the West to heal old wounds.
Move to the North and place your hand over the earth. Ask the North to center and ground you.
Step4
Invoke Powers and State Intention
You are in sacred space now. Sit in the circle and give thanks for the presence of the God and Goddess, and any totem animals, guides or ancestors who wish to participate.
State your intention for this New Moon, and ask for blessings and support.
Step5
Listen for Messages
Be silent and breathe deeply, tuning in to any messages that may come through.
Step6
Close the Circle
Give thanks to all helpful beings who participated, thank each Direction in turn, and declare the circle closed. Blow out the candle. Ground the energy with food and drink.

HAND DRUMMING lessons on the web:
Lesson 1 - Another great page by Rhythmweb! Introductory to frame drums with history and explanation of different types. Bongos, pandeiro, djembe drums, etc. A great world drumming site.
Lesson 2 - History, examples, and resources for playing the Bongos. More bongo drum lessons coming.
Lesson 3 - A music site containing just about everything there is to know about playing Djembe drums. -Awesome!
Basic details for participating in a Drumming From The Heart drum circle:
1. The drop in price is $7 per drum circle but you can also buy “drum dollars” which cost $50 for 10 drum dollars – one drum dollar = one drum circle (save $2/circle).
2. Drumming From The Heart drum circle is on every Tuesday night at the North Shore Hall in Nelson from 7:15pm to 8:45pm.
3. The North Shore Hall is located off of Johnston road across the orange bridge from Nelson at 675 Whitmore Road – second right off Johnston. It’s in a big wood and brick old church/hall – you can’t miss it – big parking lot.
4. I have spare drums and others bring spare drums and percussion also that you are free to use.
5. The circle is already composed of mostly beginners. We follow a very simple easy format that anyone can play with – it’s all good and there is no “wrong”. You have to experience it to see what I mean – absolutely no skills required – except possibly good listening skills.
In the Spirit of Love and Peace - See you in the circle…
Namaste

WHAT IS A DRUM CIRCLE?
A DRUM CIRCLE IS A GROUP OF PEOPLE COMING TOGETHER TO CREATE IN THE MOMENT MUSIC USING HAND DRUMS AND PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS. A DRUM CIRCLE IS NOT A PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE PERFORMING A PREPARED PIECE OF MUSIC, OR A DRUMMING CLASS LED BY A TEACHER, NOR ANY GROUP RE-CREATING MUSIC IT HAS PLAYED BEFORE. DRUM CIRCLES ARE A FORM OF RECREATIONAL MUSIC MAKING WHICH MEANS THAT THE FOCUS IS NOT ON PERFORMANCE BUT RATHER ON PERSONAL OR GROUP DEVELOPMENT AND WELLNESS OR JUST PLAIN FUN.
May your life be filled with Eternal Bliss and Ecstatic Joy!
Thank You!
